Tips for Snorkeling






Snorkeling is a great underwater activity or say adventure to introduce yourself to the ocean. But then of course, like any sport or activity, it is very important to be aware of basic safety rules to ensure that your snorkeling experience is enjoyable and safe.

Calm Water

Choose the conditions of the waves whether the water is calm to enjoy safer snorkel. Check the water and weather conditions if its safe. The water can be condition of the water can sometimes be trick, there are times the waves can be a meter high and sometimes the water is still. To make the snorkeling experience more enjoyable especially for beginners do it where the water is calm. Usually, snorkeling in the morning is the best time and not in the afternoon because of the current and sea breeze especially in Cebu Shores.

Equipments

Make sure that the snorkeling equipment properly fits to you. Select a pair of swim fins that fit your feet comfortably and a snorkel that will fit easily in to your mouth for breathing, Fins that’s too large will eventually slip off swimmers feet while swimming. Make sure the masks properly fit so water will no get in.

Swim

The most important thing anyone can do to stay safe on the water is to learn how to swim. While those who don’t know how to swim can still enjoy snorkeling using life vest, it is better and enjoyable snorkeling adventure if you’re able to swim. It is also important to keep your bearings while snorkeling. Following fishes can be a really fun pursuit but be careful not to swim to far from the shore or boat, after all you really can’t compete with fishes. It is also important to be aware of any current; if you feel yourself drifted far from fellow snorkelers or from the boat be sure to signal others.

Study the Site

Before to jumping into the water, find out the potential problems or conditions that surround a specific dive site that you might encounter. If the particular site is well-known for the waves, currents, shallow spots, difficult entries or exits be sure to wear a life jacket. Being aware of your environment prior to snorkeling will mean that you can focus on snorkeling when you are in the water. Malapascua Beach is tricky so be observant.

Do Not Touch

Be cautious, don’t put your bare hands into crevices or holes you see. Never touch, handle or feed marine life except under expert guidance and following locally-established guidelines, resorts surrounding Mactan Cebu do not allow snorkelers beyond boundaries, these boundaries and labeled so be observant. Another thing is to avoid trampling marine life.

Snorkeling Basics

Learning the basics like how to clear water from the snorkel and learn how to put your mask back on when you’re on the water. It is important that even beginners know how to clear water on the mask glass and resume free breathing without removing snorkel their mouth.

Love the Environment

Take your trash to the garbage cans of the resort, especially things that require special disposal, such as plastics, batteries. Lets clean and respect of the environment so that others to can continue to share the beauty and fascination of the underwater world.
