They say the reason why the waters in Camotes island turned very salty these days is due to the thousands of Korean tourists visiting each month. So imagine how hostile can the volume be if they all pee on the shore. I suggest you guys visit Camotes island before its too late and lose its charm. There is a theory that Camotes is actually where the battle of the great conquistador Ferdinand Magellan and Philippines first Freedom fighter Lapu-Lapu took place. The confusion started in early 70s during the discovery of artifacts in “Mactang”, a place in Poro island of Camotes. Philippine history is a mess like they say and this is just what my adventure had turned out in Camotes. The easiest way to reach Camotes is to take a bus ride going to Danao Port and from there you can avail barge tickets to Consuelo, Camotes. You can buy tickets in advance in Kimwa Construction in Subangdako, Mandaue City or call (032) 346-0421. You will see lots of interesting place along the way like the century old church in font of Danao Port, you might wanna say your prayers and ask for safety and make the captain realize [...]

Did you ever wonder why they call the resort “Sugar Beach”? I did got this info from an insider that if you’ll taste the sand on the resort, it would be the sweetest sand on earth. But don’t silly, you wouldn’t want to literally eat sands. One tangible proof of these are the ants living there. Most ants don’t go near sandy areas due to ant-lion threats but herein sugar beach they are everywhere. The last time I was in Bantayan Island, I didn’t encounter attacks from jellies, but this time a huge one caught me from the back and its the most painful thing I’ve ever experience in my entire life. I’m glad my willy is fine. One unfortunate chick I saw cried for help when she saw the marks near her boobs. It may sound very OA but really its true, imagine being attack by whole bunch of these jellies at once and you’ll probably curse the day you went to Bantayan Island. One story told by the staff that a local tourist actually died because of jelly fish attack and on investigation he attempt to dive into the water to refresh but then because he was drunk [...]

Many years ago before I migrated here in Cebu City, my cousin and I visited the place they call Taboan. Taboan is by all accounts one of the best market to buy “danggit“, a delicacy here in Cebu which is best for breakfast. We went there and bought kilos of danggit and when we’re done, I hailed a cab and we get inside. The cab driver’s face shows disgust in responce to the foul smell we acquire from the market. I asked how awful we smell, he said he could terribly taste it through his crewing gum. Its a serious reason why people, particularly my cousin don’t go to Taboan. This dried fish market could be nasty but the rewards can be spectacular apart that danggit in this market is cheaper, it also taste satisfying especially the unsalted ones. Danggit and dried squid is what I usually bring as “pasalubong”. Taboan Market is somewhere near the Carbon Market you certainly can get there with a cab or these horse-drawn carriages which lined up right beside the Freedom Park, they’d be visible when you’re there. I have to say, its very nice to get back to the very basic means of [...]

We’re heading to the legendary Osmeña Peak to the outskirts of Badian, Cebu and then traverse to Kawasan Falls to see if the trail they consider to be the most adventurous really does deserves its reputation. This is the coldest part of Cebu and is abundant with plants that only grow on low temperature, this is the reason why the place is called the vegetable basket of Cebu. Our local guide told us that we’ll pass by a marijuana plantation once we continue to trail going to Kawasan Falls. And so we’re about to witness what its like. Although we don’t have concrete information to go on, we still wanted to check out to reach the inaccessible part in the most inaccessible valley near Basiao, Badian. The first thing that a regular person would do before she or he climb a mountain is to check which path to go to avoid accidents but no one else in the world would you expect to be greeted by a site anything at all like this. If you are afraid of heights, you probably would wish there is an elevator going to Mantalongon Market because the series of road cliffs are definitely frightening [...]

A dream vacation on an exotic oriental island could take you to the Mactan Island in the Philippines. This is one of the little islands close to Cebu, a province in the Philippines. And nothing can compare to the magic of staying in the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa. The phrase ‘a paradise on earth’ would aptly describe this five-star resort. It is situated in the city of Lapu-Lapu, which is connected to the mainland, Cebu, by two bridges, one being the Mactan-Mandane Bridge, and the other, the Marcelo-Fernan Bridge. Lapu-Lapu has an interesting history because it is linked with the famous Portuguese explorer, Ferdinand Magellan. Magellan had gone to these islands to colonize it. In 1521, he was killed by Lapu-Lapu, the chieftain of the island. The Shangri-La Mactan Resort and Spa is set in luxuriant green tropical surroundings spread over 13 acres of land. The hotel has 530 suites and guest rooms which are unparalleled for the comfort they afford. Their motto seems to be ‘Go Green’ since all furniture is made of rattan and abaca and capiz. The rooms offer amazing views of the azure blue oceans and the marine sanctuary all around. The crowning glory is [...]

They say people in Bohol loves their place so much and that is why they travel from miles apart just to attend fiestas in their home town. These people sometimes don’t go home to their beloved Bohol island on holidays and some important dates except during feistas on May. Bol-anon as people of Bohol are called refer their homeland as the ‘Republic of Bohol’ with pride. It is an island across Cebu and can even be reached via pumpboat within hours, Pandanon island as far as I know is part of Bohol. The Bol-anon dialect don’t have much difference to Cebuanos, you almost can’t distinguish the difference but you can compare later when you hear the locals speak. Bohol also is the home of the small wide-eyed alien looking monkey primates in the world. Although tarsiers can also be found in some of the unexplored rain forests in Mindanao, Tarsiers are widely known in BOHOL Philippines. The perfect time to visit Bohol would be summer here in the Philippines around March to June. If you visit Bohol during rainy season, you’ll miss the chocolate hills which might also be the primary reason why you visit Bohol. During rainy season, grasses [...]

To reach Cebu City, whether you are from other country or a local tourist, you will have to book a flight going to Mactan International Airport. From Mactan you will have to take a 30-minute cab ride going to Cebu City across the 800 meter Mactan bridge. Most countries nearby the Philippines offers direct flights going to Mactan International Airport. If there’s no available flights, you can always book a flight going to Manila International Airport and then from there to Mactan Airport. Most airlines have scheduled flights going to the Philipines but the popular ones is Cebu Pacific and Philippines AirLines. Another way to reach Cebu is to travel from Manila to Cebu via shipping line, this will be great if you wanted to explore Philippines because through it, you’ll see more places and people as well. Some of the reasons why tourists visit Cebu is mostly because of the warm weather here. Travelers that likes beaches are likely to visit this tropical paradise. Some of the visitors here in the Philippines are also from Asian countries such as Koreans, Japanese, Chinese and even Indians, some of them are here to study and learn English.
I was in T.Padilla just near the Port of Cebu where the house of my Great Great Hardcore Grand Father is. He was once a Warden of Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC). He has a thin body and he is a haggard looking man renowned because of his generosity. There were stories about him freeing convicted felons for a period of time whenever a prisoner needs to visit a beloved one – particularly death of loved ones. He just warn them to come back after the duration or he’ll send men to hunt. These prisoners really will come back. The Cebu Provincial Museum was transformed into a museum which they now called Museo Subgo. It is located at what was once the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) on M. J. Cuenco Avenue in the old Spanish-era district of Cebu called Tejero. It is some four blocks north of Plaza Independencia. If you wanna know more about history of Zebuanos as what it is spelled in the Spanish documents, visit the museum. The entrance fee is P10.
